Camelias of the Opatija Riviera

Camelias of the Opatija Riviera

The Croatian Museum of Tourism and the Camellia Lovers Association Iginio Scarpa from Opatija have joined forces once again in the organization of the second annual tourist manifestation Camellias of the Opatija Riviera.
The event is sponsored by the mayor of Opatija and the Tourism Association. The organizers were joined this year by the Rotary Club Opatija, one of the notable sponsors of the Iginio Scarpa – Opatija Camellia Collection.
The exhibition opening will take place at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26th of 2010, at the Art Pavilion Juraj Šporer in Opatija.

This year’s event includes the exhibition and a contest, as well as a benefit titled Camellias for the Heart, the Heart for a Good Deed!

The exhibition portion of the event will present 70 camellia seedlings sponsored by Rotary Clubs and individuals from Croatia, Austria and Italy. Including these, the Iginio Scarpa Camellia Collection has reached 99 different camellias, some of which are true botanical gems. Visitors will also be able to enjoy some 40 prints from the famous collection of Dr. Luigi Sacco, created in Milan in the 1930s.

Considering the Rotary movement guiding idea of good deeds, the organizers decided to collect donations at the exhibition, for the purchase of hay for the horse Safran that was recently purchased with funds gathered by Rotary members. The horse Safran is used for therapeutic riding for children with cerebral palsy.

The contest, titled In Search of the Most Beautiful Camellias of the Opatija Riviera, includes an expert panel category, as well as the public choice category.

The exhibition will be open until March 28th of 2010.
