✨ This magical Advent season, the Croatian Museum of Tourism is organizing a creative workshop for making Advent wreaths. Each participant will have the opportunity to craft their own Advent wreath to take home and adorn their holiday table.

🌟 A Bit About the Tradition of Decorating Advent Wreaths
The Advent wreath boasts a rich tradition originating from Germany. Its history dates back to 1838 when Evangelical pastor Johann Hinrich Wichern designed a wreath with a total of 24 candles—four large ones for the Sundays of Advent and 19 smaller ones for the weekdays—in a home for impoverished children in Hamburg.

💫 The first version of the wreath was simple—a wooden circle with lit candles. A decade later, the wreath was enhanced with evergreen branches, and over time, the tradition spread beyond Germany to the rest of Europe and America.

💡 The Symbolism of the Wreath:

  • Evergreen branches – Eternity and life.
  • Candles – Light and hope.
  • Four candles – The four Sundays of Advent.
  • Laurel – Victory over sin.
  • Cedar – Strength.
  • Holly – The crown of thorns worn by Jesus.

Traditional candle colors are three purple and one pink. The purple candles represent penance and hope, while the pink candle symbolizes joy for the third Sunday of Advent. Occasionally, a fifth white candle is added, lit on Christmas Day.

🎁 The workshops are open to children and adults, free of charge, with all materials provided.
