Internation Museum Day at Croatian Museum of Tourism

Croatian Museum of Tourism Celebrates International Museum Day – Sunday, 18 May 2025

Since 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has invited museums around the world to join in the celebration of International Museum Day, held each year on 18 May. This day represents a unique moment for the global museum community. Participating museums organize creative events and activities, engage with their audiences, and highlight the important role museums play as institutions that serve society and contribute to its development.

Join us for the program with which the Croatian Museum of Tourism marks International Museum Day 2025!

MUSEUM OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM
“From Angiolina to Rosalija – How the Northern Opatija Promenade Has Changed”

Art historian Sanja Barč will lead a guided walk along Opatija’s northern promenade – Nordstrand – exploring the appearance of the villas and landscape based on the 1897 city plan of Opatija by Silberhuber and Geng. This plan is an invaluable source for recreating the historical look of Opatija. She will also talk about buildings constructed later, while old photographs and postcards will help illustrate villas that have been demolished and replaced by new structures.

The walk along the Lungomare begins at 5:30 PM at Villa Angiolina.
In case of rain, the walk will be postponed to 25 May at the same time.

This program is the first in a series of specially curated walks exploring Opatija’s landmarks.

Inside the museum, visitors can view the ceremonial hall of Villa Angiolina and the photo exhibition “Deliciously Croatia” by Damir Fabijanić.
Through a combination of natural and cultural heritage motifs and culinary delights, Fabijanić takes us on a visual journey through Croatian regions – from the coast to the interior.

🕙 Opening hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
🏛️ Admission to all programs is free.
