Opatija hosts the international ICARUS conference

📜 Opatija is hosting the 10th ICARUS Croatia Days, an international conference gathering experts in the field of cultural heritage. This year’s theme, “Networks and Routes of Cultural Heritage – Archives as Places of Stories and History”, highlights the vital role of archives in preserving historical narratives and interpreting them through modern approaches.

🗣️ At the official opening, Vesna Leiner, Acting Director of the Croatian Museum of Tourism, welcomed participants on behalf of the Museum, the City of Opatija, and Mayor Fernando Kirigin. She also presented the museum’s activities and its role in promoting cultural heritage.

📅 The conference spans three days, from March 26 to 28, featuring participants from Croatia and abroad who will present projects related to digitization, archiving, and heritage interpretation. The program includes lectures, workshops, and discussions on innovative technologies and collaborations enriching heritage science.

🏛️ Last night, participants visited the Croatian Museum of Tourism located in Villa Angiolina, a symbol of Opatija’s tourism beginnings. During their visit, they explored the guest exhibition from the Jozo Kljaković Memorial Collection titled “Kljaković’s Costume Design for Dubrovnik Diptych” and learned about the history of this iconic building.

🍷 The evening continued with a welcome drink in a relaxed atmosphere at the museum, where participants exchanged experiences, ideas, and discussed future collaborations.

🎥 As part of the program, special attention was given to the presentation of the documentary film “Opatija Bajna in HRT Archives”.
