Press Release from Acting Director Vesna Leiner

Dear Residents of Opatija, Dear Visitors, and All Past and Future Visitors of the Croatian Museum of Tourism,

We are pleased to inform you that the Croatian Museum of Tourism, after the reconstruction of Villa Angiolina, will reopen to the public on May 7, 2024!

As many of you know, the construction of this holiday villa, initiated by the wealthy Rijeka patrician and merchant Higinio Scarpa, is considered the starting point of tourism in Opatija and Croatia. This year, we are commemorating the 180th anniversary of tourism in Opatija.

Along with the renewed, reconstructed, and restored spaces of Villa Angiolina, the museum is preparing for the implementation of a new permanent museum exhibition. However, the museum will open its doors to you daily, and on the ground floor, you will be able to admire the magnificent authentic salon of the unique Villa Angiolina. Not only that, but in the coming months, you can expect a series of events and occasional exhibitions organized by the Museum, which we are confident will enrich the cultural and tourist life of Opatija, the Kvarner region, and Croatia.

Considering the museum’s significant task of researching material for the future permanent museum exhibition, we ask for your understanding in anticipation of it and invite you to collaborate in shaping our cultural policy. All suggestions are welcome! Your support is crucial in preserving and promoting cultural and historical heritage and tourism. We invite you to openly share your proposals and actively participate in our community to help create special experiences for visitors and residents of our beautiful Opatija, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and Croatia as a whole.

Join us in creating a modern museum that meets the new trends in the museum profession of the 21st century. The museum wants and must be a link between the cultural, educational, and economic life of our community. We look forward to your visit and enjoying the upcoming and unique experiences that the Museum of Tourism offers.

More details about new events at the museum will be provided soon.

Your Croatian Museum of Tourism,

Vesna Leiner, Museum Educational Advisor
