Frequently asked questions

1. What can be the subject of a donation?

Materials related to the history of tourism in Croatia which we collect are: postcards, tourist posters, advertisements, brochures, guides, leaflets, photos, videos, souvenirs, swimsuits, umbrellas, suitcases, cameras, sunglasses, ski equipment, boat tickets , train or plane, menus, hotel utensils… everything you own, and it is related to your holidays and winters, to trips and travels.
We also want to preserve and record your personal stories and experiences – whether you are a traveler, host, resident of a tourist place, tourist worker… Let the donated item be an incentive to remember travel experiences, enrich the subject with information and emotions, tell the story of Croatian tourism.

2. How do I submit the subject(s)?

The first step is to fill out the form. After that, you will be contacted by one of the museum staff and you will agree with him on how to hand over the items.
You can also call us yourself, every working day from 8 am to 4 pm, on tel 051 / 603-636, or visit our headquarters, Villa Angiolina in Opatija.

3. What will happen to my donation after I hand it over to the museum?

The material taken over will be treated with the utmost care and will be permanently stored in the Croatian Museum of Tourism, as part of one of the museum’s collections. Digital recordings of donated items will form a virtual collection, which will be located on the museum’s website.

4. Will and when will my donation be exhibited?

The donated item becomes part of one of our collections from which, depending on the theme, we select exhibits for occasional exhibitions. When your item will be exhibited depends on the Museum’s program plan.

5. What is a “story”?

The story is an accompanying “legend” with the item that you entrust to us for safekeeping. It gives the subject context, enriches its meaning.
We are interested in why this item is important, where and when you used it, why you saved it, what memories you associate with it…
Each donated item does not have to have a “story”. However, if it exists, share it with us, since the “story” next to the subject becomes part of the story of the history of Croatian tourism.
